Chemical safe-handling procedures, personal protective equipment guidelines and emergency first-aid measures. Please read carefully before using our products.
Basic Laboratory Safety
Before handling Qihe Biotech products, always read the product label and Safety Data Sheet (SDS/MSDS) carefully. All chemical operations must be carried out in a properly equipped laboratory following standard safety procedures.
- No eating, drinking, smoking or food storage in the laboratory
- Always wear a lab coat, protective gloves and safety goggles when handling chemical reagents
- Chemical work should be performed in a fume hood or well-ventilated area
- Wash hands thoroughly after experiments; remove lab coat before leaving the laboratory
- Know the location of eyewash stations, safety showers and fire extinguishers in your lab
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
🧤 Protective gloves
Select nitrile gloves (recommended) or latex gloves based on chemical compatibility. Double-gloving is advised when handling organic solvents such as DMSO or DMF.
Safety goggles / face shield
Protect eyes from reagent splashes. Mandatory when handling corrosive or toxic reagents.
Lab coat
A long-sleeved, liquid-resistant lab coat protects against chemical splashes. Cotton or polyester fabric is acceptable.

Required when weighing powder products or preparing DMSO/DMF solutions.
Chemical Safety Handling
DMSO / DMF Solvent Precautions
- DMSO rapidly penetrates skin and can carry dissolved substances into the body — rinse immediately with large amounts of water upon contact
- Prepare DMSO/DMF solutions inside a fume hood
- Concentrated DMSO can dissolve some plastics (e.g. polyethylene) — use PP or glass containers
Fluorescent Dye Safety
- Some fluorescent dyes are potentially mutagenic — handle as hazardous chemicals
- Weigh dry powders inside a fume hood to avoid inhalation
- Collect waste dye solutions as chemical waste; do not discharge directly to the drain
- After skin contact, wash immediately with soap and copious water for at least 15 minutes
Azide Safety
- Sodium azide (NaN₃) is highly toxic; oral LD50 (rat) is approximately 27 mg/kg
- Azides react with acids to generate highly toxic hydrazoic acid gas — avoid contact with acidic materials
- Azide waste must not be mixed with acids or poured down copper/lead drains (forms explosive heavy-metal azide salts)
- Use dedicated azide waste containers
Emergency Response
Skin contact
Immediately remove contaminated clothing and wash with soap and large amounts of running water for at least 15 minutes. Seek medical attention if irritation or burns occur.
Eye contact
Immediately rinse thoroughly with running water or saline for at least 15 minutes, keeping eyelids open. Seek medical attention immediately.
Inhalation
Move the affected person to fresh air immediately and ensure the airway is clear. If breathing is difficult, administer oxygen and seek medical attention immediately.
Ingestion
Rinse mouth with water; do not induce vomiting (unless directed by medical personnel). Seek medical attention immediately and bring the product label or SDS.

Waste Disposal
- Chemical liquid waste: Fluorescent dye solutions and DMSO/DMF waste should be collected in designated organic waste containers and disposed of by a licensed hazardous-waste contractor.
- Solid waste: Pipette tips, gloves, filter papers and other solid materials contaminated with chemical reagents should be collected as chemical/medical waste in dedicated yellow waste bags.
- Empty reagent bottles: Bottles with residual chemical content are classified as hazardous waste and must not be mixed with general refuse. Collect in original packaging and hand over to a hazardous-waste contractor.
- Sharps: Needles, broken glass and other sharps must be collected in a sharps container and kept separate from other solid waste.
- Biological waste: Experimental waste containing biological material (e.g. cell-culture media, bacterial cultures) must be autoclaved (121°C, 30 min) before disposal.
♻️ Qihe Biotech advocates green-laboratory practices: minimize single-use consumables and purchase chemicals as needed to prevent waste from expiry.
